Going café hunting for places to study and work isn't fun when you're rushing a deadline or only have a few hours to spare in-between appointments. So, I've compiled a list of my favourite spots as a Bukit Timah native, where the WiFi is extremely reliable, charging points are readily available, it's usually not too crowded and noisy, and there's food if you have cash to spare.

This is by far, my favourite work and hang out spot. It's located at Holland Village, which is just a 5-10 minute bus ride from Sixth Avenue, and is very easily accessible by MRT. A regular cappuccino costs $5, but you can customise your milk options for an extra cost. A $5 cup of joe can last me a good few hours, but if you're the kind of person that needs multiple shots of caffeine a day, feel free to upsize yours to a large cup for an additional $2, and you're guaranteed to have a cup at least twice the size.

I was so excited when I discovered Kindred Folk. Its 2-storey minimalist design is every zen lovers' paradise. There's even a cosy hammock in the corner of the second storey to give it an added sense of hygge. Its high ceiling, white walls and big glass windows offer an air of spaciousness that does wonders for the restless mind. Their student meal deals go for $9.90, making them quite popular with the MGS crowd, and their assortment of Asian-inspired ice-cream flavours are a must-try; my favourite being their Roasted Rice Milk Tea, which goes for $3.10 per scoop and can be paired with their charcoal waffles for another $6.

If you've ever met students going to Holland Village to study, you can bet they've hit up d'Good Café before. With a hearty selection of food and drinks, you'll be spoilt for choice. Surprise, surprise! They also offer 10% student discounts, so remember to bring your Student ID. If you're the kind that likes to hang loose while you work, their swinging chairs are perfect for you!

If I'm ever having a slow day and have some extra time on my hands, I take Bus 77 to 313 Somerset, which gets me seated comfortably in the library in about 35 minutes max. It's definitely going to be cold, so I would advise you to take a sweater with you if you're planning on staying there for at least a few hours. This is definitely my second favourite library in Singapore, mostly because of its central location, but also because of its open-concept design and layout. I've sat there for hours on end, gazing out onto the busy streets and browsing through collections of books and magazines on lifestyle, philosophy and healthy living.

Hands down, my favourite library in Singapore. When it first opened, I frequented it at least once a week. Reclining on the chairs overlooking the stunning sea view was the least I could do to assuage my nerves whenever I pondered over the road ahead of me. Apart from weekends, when tourists would flock to the confines of the library's air-conditioning to escape the dreary heat outside, the library usually takes on a quiet charm; and apart from students, seems mostly filled with retirees with spare time on their hands. It never gets too cold because of the constant sunshine filtering through the large glass windows. When the sun's high up in the sky, the blinds automatically roll down to abate the glare of the sun's rays so that visitors can relax, as per usual.
