Story Behind the Cover Art

This photo was taken by a friend of mine named Jon — A photographer I had only met in the beginning of February this year. I had decided that this year was going to be a year of change and new beginnings, and boy, was my life about to change. We met at Sentosa for our very first photoshoot together, and as the sun set we headed back to the monorail at Sentosa's Beach Station.

As we headed toward Siloso Beach, I noticed the lamp lights changing from purple to pink, to blue, to orange, so on and so forth, changing the colour of the sand beneath them. Immediately, I knew I had to try a photoshoot with the coloured sand. It took us a few tries, but we managed to capture plenty of portrait shots in various neon colours — and this was my favourite one. When I saw this image on the camera, I knew I had the Cover Art that I wanted for "Half-Asleep." We found out later that Sentosa was having its Magical Shores light show at Siloso Beach just as we were about to leave. It was perfect timing!

do we ever wake up?
are we constantly chasing a dream
that we're too afraid of?

I wanted my Cover Art to juxtapose fantasy and reality. As Iris Murdoch said: "We live in a fantasy world, a world of illusion. The great task in life is to find reality." How much of your life is real and how much of your life is a fantasy - an illusion you've created inside your head?

are we just going to live half-asleep?

It's a question that no one can answer but you. It's a question that no one can answer but me.
