Love is the Great Adventure

January 20, 2020

"They say they built the train tracks over the Alps before there was a train that could make the trip. They built it anyway. They knew one day the train would come." — Under the Tuscan Sun (film)

Swiss Alps, Kandersteg, Switzerland

Just finished watching "Under The Tuscan Sun" and I think Diane Lane has just secured her spot as my new favourite actress.

It has also re-ignited my obsession with Italy all over again... Walking down cobbled streets, eating pasta every day (or any other Italian delicacy) and watching people of all shapes in sizes interact communicate with big expressions and loud gestures — What's not to love?

Witnessing Frances' whirlwind romance play out with Marcello - as brief as it was - reminded me of why I fall head over heels for love time and time again. It's always a rollercoaster of dopamine and endorphins; you're either at a constant high or a temporary low that can almost always be fixed with a hug and a kiss (sometimes, also an apology). Every moment spent with the person you love becomes a precious memory that needs to be etched in stone because you never want to forget it (and sometimes, you never do). It's like smoking a joint, but you never get to the end: Minutes begin to feel like hours and you slowly begin to lose all sense of time. Time itself is reduced to an idea that doesn't seem to exist in the space that the both of you share. The sun rises and sets, and the moon comes out each night, but every experience you've had together lasts forever.

Love will change you in ways you never thought it would or even could. It will make you realise just how flawed you are, but at the same time, it will show you just how beautiful life can be. As someone once said: "Love isn't about finding the perfect person. It's about realising that an imperfect person can make your life perfect." It is the epitome of perfect imperfection.

Like Katherine said: "Never lose your childish innocence. It is the most important thing." Somehow that comes very naturally to me. Especially after attending my acting teacher's workshop in Bali, I've never been able to close my heart off again like before.

I've always made it a point to live life with no regrets, and I don't regret us for one moment.

The stars don't always align, and who can tell when it will be the "right" time? The only thing you can do right now is to live your truth in the present moment. Trust that something better is out there waiting for you and that someone better is out there searching for you, too. Give yourself permission to feel and take all the time in the world you need to heal... Revisit every memory you've created with them if you want to. Remind yourself that love exists. It did, it does and it always will.
